Playground Battleships is a great way to learn about, or recap finding coordinates on a one quadrant grid. In pairs your class will play a large scale version of Battleships by drawing a grid using chalk and then using natural objects or chalk to keep track of when and where their ships have been hit. Using physical materials outdoors is a great way to introduce your students to subtraction. For this activity they take a task card and use leaves, stones, and sticks to help them work out the simple subtraction on the card. This coordinate activity pack contains two different sets of activities and is designed to help children master coordinates in a fun and engaging way. This is a fun number sense activity that will help your little ones recognise, compose, build, and compare numbers through this visual and practical game. For this activity students will roll the dice and build the number using cubes for the corresponding square. For example, if they rolled a 6, they would find the square with the 6 dice next to it, look at the number, and stack that many cubes on top of the square. This is a great activity to get your students practicing their measuring skills as they explore objects in the outdoors (can also be done indoors). It’s a very simple activity that is great fun and easy to prepare. For this measuring activity give each child, pair, or small groups a 1 meter bit of string. Get them to go around outside and use the string to measure different items. They can complete the table by drawing or writing the objects they find that are bigger than or less than 1 meter. It’s good to demonstrate how to effectively use the string to help them measure. This is a simple but fun activity that will help improve your classes measuring skills. Using a ruler, meter stick, trundle wheel, tape measure, or other measuring tool get your class to measure and record different items in your outdoor space. It can be useful to give clear demonstrations as to how to use the different equipment.
